Moon Aspects and Romance
When astrologers look for compatibility between charts, one element we check is how well the Moon interacts with the personal planets, the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars. Astrologers call these interactions aspects. They indicate the ease or difficulty of the energetic flow between the planetary bodies. The harmonious connection astrologers call a trine; a friendly one, a sextile. Difficult connections are represented by the challenge aspect called the square and the tension aspect called the opposition. Though a conjunction, that is two planets that share a zodiac sign, is usually considered a difficult aspect, the one exception is in relationship astrology. A conjunction signals a natural understanding of the issues represented by the planets involved.
In your natal chart, your zodiac Moon sign represents your emotional center, the heart of you. It is the part that is concerned with giving to others. When we love, we love with our Moon. How the Moon interacts with the other planets show how you love and nurture another person.
Sun/Moon–The sun represents our essential nature, that which we expect to become in this life. The moon delineates our inner core, that which some people believe we bring back from past lifes, what we were. The interaction between these two most important luminaries can determine the quality of your relationship. Jacqueline Bigar recently said: “. . . if the sun and moon don’t dance, it isn’t long term.” Having harmonious (trine) or friendly(sextile) connections between these luminaries signals a basic understanding of each others needs. Difficult connections, the challenge aspect called a square and the tension aspect known as the opposition tells you that patience and understanding is needed to overcome basic personality differences. A strong Sun/Moon connection fosters romance and paves the way for a long term relationship.
When a woman’s Moon occupies the same sign as man’s Sun, this signals a real yin/yang relationship. The man sees her as the feminine part that completes him and vice versa.
Moon/Moon–With trines and sextiles there is a natural understanding of each other’s emotional needs and strong emotional bonds. Squares and oppositions trigger emotional difficulties. When you get together there is often food involved. While strong Moon?Moon aspects do not signal romance, they are important for laying a groundwork of true friendship.
Moon/Mercury–there is no problem communicating with trines and sextiles between the Moons and Mercuries of each of the natives. You two can share great conversations, and talk about everything! Activities involving short trips are often a pleasure. Moon/Mercury aspects indicate friendship, but true love would not exist without friendship.
Moon/Mars—There is either smoke or fire with Moon/Mars connections. Whether good, bad or indifferent sexual attraction exits between the individuals. Trines and sextiles lends positive energy, with the Mars individual ready, willing and able to act upon the desires of the Moon person. Squares and Oppositions often signal difficulties in hooking up or following through on activities. Strong Moon/Mars connections won’t bring you romance, but they will be the impetus to seek it out.
Moon/Venus–There is often a bond of love, either in friendship or romance, between individuals who share positive Moon/Venus connections. Squares and Oppositions signal a lack of sympathy or a shared sense of values.
