Moon Magic—Her Monthly Cycle and Her Daily Impact

Monday, November 10th, 2008

The closest body to the Earth, the Moon spins through each sign of the zodiac within a lunar month. Because she spends roughly only two and half days in each sign, the Moon has great impact on our daily affairs. But the Moon going through the zodiac signs tells only part of the story. The Moon impacts your natal chart by the house it is in and the planet it may aspect.

You may have heard an astrologer talk about the different houses. A “house” is an ancient term for the two-hour divisions of the twenty- four hour clock. The ancient Greeks assigned Aries as the first sign of the zodiac, since at the time, the first day of spring, the center of the Sun can be observed to be directly above the Earth’s equator. The precise order of the zodiac signs were overlaid on the two- hour divisions known as houses, lending to those houses the qualities of the zodiac sign with which it is associated.

In addition there is a planet that is associated with each of the zodiac signs. That planet is said to “rule” the house. The zodiac signs, the planets and the houses, then, have equivalent meanings. As the moon enters a zodiac sign, she takes on the mantle of the qualities of that sign and directly impact the affairs ruled by it. Where the moon moves through in your chart shines a spotlight on that area. When it makes an energetic connection called an aspect with another planet it highlights that area of your life as well. In a continuous monthly cycle you experience the different slices of your life. Most significantly, the Moon impacts our emotional responses. It also influences our interactions with women and activities within the home.

Here’s how the moon affects us as it transits through the signs, the houses and in aspect to a planet:

Moon in Aries, in the first house, Moon in aspect to Mars—Emotionally you are revved up. You may rush through things, are a little too ready for a fight and think more about your body. You might find yourself eating a little too much during this period. Mood: Upbeat

The Moon–The Astrology of How You Feel

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

So you’ve read all about your zodiac sign, and know the essential qualities of that sign. You know if you have the fiery nature of one of the fire signs, Aries, Leo or Sagittarius, The sensitivity of the one of the water signs, Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces, the solidity of one of the earth signs, Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn or the mental acuity of the Air signs, Gemini, or Aquarius. But something doesn’t quite fit right, because at some point you say “but that’s not how I feel.”

You’re right, you absolutely are. The Sun, the planet we equate with our “sign” is just one part of the equation of our personality. The zodiac sign the Moon was in at the time of your birth rules your emotions, your feelings about home and hearth and the things that make you feel secure. Since the Moon runs through all twelve signs each month, placing the Moon in your natal chart requires that you know your birth time. If you do not know your birth time, and it is not on your birth certificate, then the next step is to contact the town hall at your birthplace and request a complete copy of your birth certificate, the one where your birth time is recorded.

Knowing your Moon sign gives you added insight into those things that engage your heart. For men it is one indicator of the type of woman they need in their life. For women it is a validation of their nurturing, caring side. Here is very quick run down on the qualities of each moon, though when you know your Moon sign you can read zodiac descriptions of that sign and apply those descriptions to your heart.

Aries—You like to be in charge of the home and you like your freedom. Though you might be a bit jealous yourself, it’s no fair when someone is jealous of you. You feel best when you get your morning exercise and eat a light breakfast. You are on the go, often.

Taurus—The sign of the bull feels most comfortable when surrounded by the finer things of life. You like solid, reliable and practical people in your life, a full larder and a good health plan. You stash money away for a rainy day that other people don’t know about. There is nothing you won’t do for your loved ones.

Gemini—You are most comfortable when surrounded by friends with whom you can dish about any subject. You like smart people, a lot! You are never without your cell phone and you almost always seem to be reading something. Since so many things interest you, you rarely like to get tied down, but when you find someone that will be your friend forever, you’ll consider it.

Cancer—Moonchild that you are, you are most secure when you have a home base to work from. Nurturing and protective, you are happiest when you have someone to take care of. You want someone with who you can share your feelings, which are very deep.

Leo—You’re a star, Leo moon and you expect to be treated as such. Having your loved ones pay attention to you is very important. Should your lover fail to give less than your fair share, you’ll find someone who will. Loyalty is very big with you. You are loyal forever to whomever gives to same to you.

Virgo—The Moon in the sign of the Virgin is on a quest for the perfect love. Your standards are high, but you can recognize a diamond in the rough. You are happiest when you have someone on whom you can lavish your considerable domestic talents, but you aren’t afraid to go it alone either.

Libra—You have a considerable need for the hearts and flowers kind of romance with someone all your friends like. You like refined people and you absolutely need harmony in your home. You are appalled when people can’t be nice to each other. Fortunately for them, you are there to smooth things over so that everyone can get along.

Scorpio—You are extremely sensitive, so sensitive that you hide most your feelings to protect yourself in the clinches. You feel like a marshmallow most of the time, so you project a steely demeanor to keep other people from breaking you heart. You need someone who matches your passion and intensity.

Sagittarius–Light hearted and filled with the zest for life, you feel the need to keep things light and breezy. You draw many admirers with you sunny smile and generous heart. You have high ideals and want someone that matches those ideals. Though you desire love, you keep your heart to yourself until you find that one perfect love.

Capricorn—You nearly always feel that you haven’t achieved enough to be worthy to love. You won’t be ready to settle down until you attained what you perceive to be a comfortable lifestyle, but when you do, it will be with a suddenness that surprises your friends. Secretly you wish to be swept off your feet so that you don’t have to make the sticky decision as to who will be your life mate.

Aquarius—You need to be yourself, first and always, and you need to be free. Its not that you won’t hold down a nine to five, but you have to be sufficiently mentally engaged in the job to do so. Whoever you love has to be your friend, first, last and always. You can tolerate any behavior on the part of your loved ones but a betrayal of that friendship.

Pisces—Love is grand mystery to you that you love to explore. You’ll be in love forever with the person who never stops romancing you. You need someone who understands your passions and your emotional needs. In turn, you will make sure they know they are loved each and every day.
